I don’t get the whole stars system, nor the rules up there, but I definitely enjoy nights spent on the balcony with some drinks in my hand, enjoying the view. Although I learn how to appreciate the beauties they create, there are people more heat up in this than I am that can spend their entire nights watching and studying the stars through their telescopes. This came out like a really good investment for the app developers and there are many apps on iTunes and Google Play that every astronomy lover should have on their iPhone or Android smartphone.
Today, we are going to focus only on apps for stargazers. Before we continue, we need to mention that not every app is free and purchase-free and not all of them are available on both iOS and Android. For example, StarMap is said to be one of the greatest apps for iOS, but the Android users can forget about it, at least for now. StarMap developers really did their homework and now, all the iOS users can enjoy their database of 2.5 million stars and the ability to navigate the space and find the new ones on your own. with this app, you can also track over 475,000 asteroids, 13,000 deep sky objects, and a Tycho catalog. For the ones unfamiliar with the whole concept of Tycho catalog, it is the catalog containing positions and magnitudes of about 2.5 million stars, available with proper motions and two-colour photometric data.
On the other hand, the official NASA app is only available for Android users for now. Is it because NASA is only an Android lover or because their developers still didn’t make it launch the app for iOS as well, but we hope that it would be available for both of them soon. Of course, like most of the other Android apps, NASA app is totally free for users, who can enjoy all the latest news, images, and videos collected so far.
Unfortunately, the only app available for both iOS and Android users that fit our criteria, for now, is Stellarium Mobile Sky Map, which allows you to observe about 600,000 stars on a real-time sky map. This one is great for close people who have different operating systems to share with each other all their observations.
We decided to give it a shot and try to find a bit more apps, so, at the end, we came up with 11 best astronomy iPhone and Android for star gazers
