I remember when I god my first game console. My parents allowed me few hours a week for playing it and it was usually only on Saturday. Sunday was a day scheduled for preparation for Monday. After I got my first computer, I took all the installations my friends had even though I hated some of them, but I just had to have them. I remember how stupid it was for my parents to give money for new games and the look on my face when I actually got the brand new game… oh my god, it was unbelievable.
I remember I used to play Mario all the time. Even my mom was addicted, so there were many occasions when we forgot what we actually had to do that day and since she’d get back from work, we would sit in front of the tv and played it until the evening. I can’t remember how many times I had a flashbacks or even heard the Mario background song when I was outside, playing. I was really addicted. After a while, my console broke which actually gave me the opportunity to socialize. But I noticed that more and more people stopped going out or came to school with their eyes closed because they had stayed up all night. I couldn’t understand it for a long time, until I heard that the thing that keeps them up all night is a game called WoW (World of Warcraft). I was really intrigued, but didn’t understand the game at the beginning. Actually, because of my previous experience, I didn’t even bother to understand. Every other person was addicted to it and every other person forgot about everyone and everything because of that game. And that wasn’t the problem only with my generation. There were many grown-ups who gave a lot of money on it too. Some people actually made a career out of it. Still don’t get it, but ok.
WoW was released in 2004 and by now it has got over 10 million subscribers and the earnings of 9.23 billion. Looking at those numbers, it seems like the game may actually be good.
