So what are the best coworking spaces in Belgrade- Serbia? What is coworking? It is a style of work that involves shared working environment, often in offices, but yet you do independent activities. It was found out by an American programmer, Brad Neuberg, in 2005. Insider Monkey recently published an article in which we can find lots of interesting facts about his topic.
As for me I do coworking as a freelancer and I can say that it is a perfect solutions. It could be used by organizations, firms or even freelancers. Some of them could have the same field of interests although it is not necessary for getting a place in one of these spaces. It means you can be anywhere, you can travel throughout the whole world, but yet you can work as well. Of course it has advantages and disadvantages, too. One of its cons is that brings people together from different places, for example you are from Europe, but your colleagues are from The Philippines, or in Kenya. But there are some rules and obligations as well, for instance: “clean after yourself” – as you share the space with other people. In Serbia the first coworking space was Startit, which was opened in Belgrade, in 2010. This space was for only IT technicians. In order to create the list Inside Monkey consulted the site Coworker and ranked the spaces by reviews, feedbacks of users. Also Insider Monkey used magazines like Kuca Stil and Still in Belgrade. Now we have picked three coworking spaces in Belgrade: Startit Center, Smart Office, and Nova Iskra.Started Center was opened in 2010, and it represents a coworking space for only IT developers. There were about 40 startups and more than 100 young people that spent time in this space. It is in the cit center, next to the main railway station. The second one is Smart office, which was opened in 2012. It offers 30 desks and 2 conference rooms; anyone can use it, either freelancers or contractors. And at last but not least we mention Nova Iskra. It was opened in 2012, too. It supports young professionals from different fields of design, but anyone can go and work there. The year of was an outstanding year for Nova Iskra as it was awarded for the best coworking space of the year!
