Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Fiber has impacted the other broadband providers and this triggered a change where other providers such as Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) to increase their speeds rapidly.
Julia Boorstin of CNBC was reporting on one of such instances and she said that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) has decided to increase the upload speeds on FiOS networks. She said that the upload speeds would go up by as much as 14 times compared to the Cable upload speeds and this speed would be available to the highest end subscribers of the ISP.
“Imagine a five minute HD video uploaded in just 4 seconds down from a minute. “ Boorstin said about the upgraded upload speed of FiOS.
She also said that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) has made an announcement that its upload speed and download speed would be similar and the company is battling slowing growth in the broadband business. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has been giving tough competition to other service providers in few cities already.
The subscribers will now be able to upload videos on Facebook and YouTube faster and also take a backup of files in the cloud quicker than before. The other benefits of the upgraded speed are that the quality of online gaming would improve a lot; video chats would become smoother with higher quality.
Boorstin said that this move by Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) can be a game changer in the near future to handle more internet connected devices around the home. This move from the company came after Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) started to offer symmetrical upload and download times.
“Verizon is taking advantage of its all fiber network which enables faster uploads than cable whose systems are more designed for sending videos to homes rather than having consumers send video from home” Julia Boorstin stated.
This move comes before the quarterly earnings release which would be tomorrow morning before the bell.
