The fund, which focuses on quantitative investment, unveiled its top three equity picks in the latest 13F report. Its top three equity positions at the end of the third quarter of 2014 were United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) and Metlife Inc (NYSE:MET). Stevens Capital Management had total equity portfolio value of slightly above $3.3 billion in the latest filing, which reflected a decline from more than $3.7 billion in the second quarter of 2014.
Stevens Capital Management closed the third quarter of 2014 with its largest equity position in United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX). The fund had 433,145 shares in the company at the end of the quarter, which carried an estimated value of $46 million. It increased exposure to the equity of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX) in the latest filing because it had 196,152 shares there in the previous report.
In addition to Stevens Capital Management, United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX) is also a large stake in the portfolio of Rit Capital Partners. The fund, managed by Jacob Rothschild, owned 318,700 shares of the company at the end of the second quarter of 2014.
Stevens Capital Management initiated a position in Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) in the third quarter of 2014 and made the stock its second largest equity stake. The fund acquired 599,612 shares of specialty coffee provider in the quarter. The stake in Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) was valued at slightly more than $45 million in the latest filing.
Amiva Capital, managed by Ian Mukherjee also has a significant stake in Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX). It held 164,500 shares in the company at the close of the second quarter of 2014.
Metlife Inc (NYSE:MET) occupied the third largest equity position in the portfolio of Stevens Capital Management in the latest report. The fund initiated a position in this insurance stock in the third quarter of 2014 during which it acquired 803,599 shares. The position had an estimated value of more than $43 million at the end of the third quarter of 2014.
Metlife Inc (NYSE:MET)’s EVP, R Maria Morris, sold 18,300 shares in the company last month.
