Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) might be pushing the limits of product quality with its exquisite models, but not to the levels that Saleen Automotive founder, Steve Saleen, would have loved. In an interview on Bloomberg, Saleen highlighted some of the changes that they have done on Tesla’s Model S electric vehicle as they look to transform it into one of a kind luxury vehicle.
Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is arguably the leader in electric cars in the world with its Model S, which continues to receive positive reviews in the automotive industry. Its expansion into Asian markets especially China highlights the belief that the company has on its models performing in terms of sales.
“We certainly recognize the future of automotive, and that the electric cars are not a fad, they are a definite trend,” said Mr. Saleen.
Driven by childhood passion for vehicles, Saleen has seen the transformation of Ford Mustang, which was modified’ with a supercharger transforming it into a more outdoor luxury car, field with racing enthusiasm. Improving efficiency and performance of Model S looks to be the next play for Saleen with Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S.
Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S received an uplift on the aerodynamics front through the changing of the rear and front Fishers; to give it a better downward force, as well as better functionality and better airflow. Cleanness underneath the car was also taken care of with the addition of a saleen-spoiler and a rare diffuser, which according to Mr. Saleen helps in cleaning the air underneath the car.
“We look at what we can do mechanically to the vehicle so in this case on the Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) that we’ve shown; we’ve changed all of the suspension. Different springs, shocks, sway bar, pivot pushings to give it a different ride height; to give it a little better different type of balance, a little better road holding in that we’ve done by putting wider rims and tires on it to give it a slow better traction,” said Mr. Saleen
Orders for the remodeled Tesla cars are currently being taken with the Model S Electric Sedan quoted a price range of between $71,000 and $100,000. Tesla Model S Foursixteen, on the other hand goes for sale for between $152,000 and $200,000.
Andor Capital Management, led by Daniel Benton held 1.25 million shares of Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) worth $300.08 million at the end of the second quarter of 2014.
