Despite strong institutionalization, the European economy was adversely harmed by events such as the 2008 financial crisis. On occasion, infighting breaks out on the streets, resulting in the loss of life and property. Unemployment is also beneficial to the mafia in terms of recruiting young people. The homicide rate in Glasgow is 5.1 per 100,000 people. In the 2019-2020 fiscal year, 81,854 crimes were registered in the city. Scotland has a great deal of independence from the rest of the UK, which has allowed it to handle crime as a public health issue rather than just a law enforcement issue.
