In an article on Seattle Times, it was reported that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and the US government are currently in a legal battle. This problem started when a local judge issued a warrant which ordered Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to give access to millions of emails of its users in order to unmask a drug dealer network. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was ready to follow the order when its Global Criminal Compliance team found out that the data which is being asked for is not located in the US and it is coming from Ireland and some other countries of Europe.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is now fighting against the warrant and holds the position that if the company would hand over the data of its users in this way, this would mean a catastrophe not only for the company but for the US government itself.
The opponents of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) claim that if Microsoft will not allow the access to its international data, culprits and criminals will place their data outside the US to protect themselves from any legal activity. The source said that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) business is in grave danger because of this case. Germany has clearly conveyed Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) that the government will not use its servers it the company does not win this case. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is in a process of rebuilding trust after Edward Snowden’s claims which said that Microsoft is also one of the company which are a part of Prism program.
If Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) loses this case, it would create massive ripples across European companies and customers because their data will be at risk and US government will be able to check user data of international users any time.
