Police hours at least once a week, patrols circling around each block the whole day and night, jails filled with convicts. You would think that the US is the safest country on Earth. Then, you open a newspaper and run into 20 different pages dedicated to the incidents of the last night. At least 2 women were attacked or raped, about 4 local stores were robbed, at least one man was killed and there are more than 3 casualties in a shooting. In that moment you are realizing how dangerous the US can be.
If you would take a look at FBI’s or a Police Department’s records, you would find out that the US, like the rest of the world, was the most dangerous during the 90’s. This was a decade when everyone carried guns with themselves when being assaulted on the street on your way to the grocery store in the middle of a day was just an ordinary day on the Earth. Fortunately for all, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the crime rate has been decreased by 56% since 1990’s, and 2016 was declared the safest year in the history of New York. So, the police department doesn’t cash its salary for nothing, nice to know. Still, the crime isn’t totally suspended from the US, and the total extinction is still questionable.
