GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) has remained the juggernaut in the sports and action camera space, but it’s about time that the other players start landing to give a tough time to it. In a program on CNBC, Eunice Yoon compared GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) with Xiaomi’s newly launched action camera ‘YI’. Xiaomi’s new camera is available for half the price ($64) of GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) Hero. Yoon said that the video quality for Gopro is better but overall, in specs and performance, Yi beats GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) with a clear margin. Xiaomi’s new camera is the first generation of its devices, so it could take time for a bit of refinement. Still, Xiaomi camera cost is so low that it is enough to beat Gopro.
Yoon agreed that it is just a matter of months when Xiaomi will start rolling out its phones and camera beyond China. She thinks that Gopro has a major drawback in the integration space. It can’t be integrated smoothly with the apps and other devices, whereas Xiaomi has the best integration dynamics which makes its devices and this sports action camera more competitive.
Xiaomi’s CEO recently hinted that the company wants to start selling its products in the US as well. If that happens, the major tech companies in the US will have to run for their money because Xiaomi is delivering colossal products in extremely affordable prices.
Dan Nathan said that Xiaomi has a bleak scope in the US because the native market is already taken over by Apple, GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) and other famous companies.
