Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has recently made it mandatory for its mobile users to download the messenger app in order to send or receive messages from chat. This has caused massive outrage among its users. Thousands of users have complained about this step from Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and called it a forceful promotion of the Messenger app, which might have privacy and interface issues. According to Financial Times, citing a data from App Annie, an app analytics company, since the beginning of August, Facebook’s Messenger app has received 50,000 reviews with a rating of one star across app stores of all the mobile platforms. This feedback depicts the level of dissonance of the Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s messenger app.
The report added many feedback comments from users who are angry on Facebook for not respecting the customer reviews. Many users are also worried about Messenger app’s ability to record audio, because they think that it can track the background activity on their phone. The FT also quoted a spokesperson of Facebook who said that the company has taken this step in order to facilitate the customs to enjoy the messaging on Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Messenger app without any confusions.
“As we’ve said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we’ll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
The source added that other companies are watching Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s multi-app strategy and making their own decisions based on the users’ reaction.
