Internet and social stocks have not been doing well in the recent times, however few companies such as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) and Pandora Media Inc (NYSE:P) seem to be gaining again on the market.
Mark Mahaney, lead Internet analyst at RBC, was on CNBC and he discussed his picks in the internet and social stock segment. He thinks that the stocks such as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) and Pandora Media Inc (NYSE:P) are the stocks with least risk. These stocks have started moving on upside in this week after slight dip.
He also spoke about the drones, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is planning to use are not much of a catalyst for the investment the company would get for the next 3 years. He said that the investment that Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is making in video, China, smartphones and in the grocery delivery is huge. He says that the company is taking more risk that it has taken in the last 20 years on an average in terms of areas of investment.
“The drones are completely immaterial to the investment thesis, probably for the next three year.” he said.
Not just Mahaney, a lot of other investors back Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) to be good investments. Gene Munster recently said that he would invest in the social media giant as it would yield good returns in the second half of the year. Stephen Weiss was bullish on Priceline Group and he loved the fundamentals of the stock. He said that the stock has a lot of potential to grow.
Mahaney said that the internet stocks such as eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) and Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) have dipped recently and he thinks that these stocks have higher risk.
Tiger Global Management Llc and Blue Ridge Capital are the key investors in Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) with over 680,000 and 300,000 shares respectively as of march 31st 2014. They key investors in Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) are Jat Capital Management and Andor Capital Management with approximately 4.3 million and 2 million shares respectively.
