The company is going ‘open’ for all its competitors and opening the gates to everyone. It is making apps, software for different platforms like Android, iOS. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’ new CEO Satya Nadella radically changes the way company made its products and apps. A new article on Wired quotes, Mark Russinovich, a guy who is regarded as one of the top software engineers at Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and say that the Redmond giant should open sources its OS. Russinovich helped build the Redmond giant its Windows operating system, the backbone of the company from where its majority of revenues from.
Russinovich thinks that the new age belongs to the Open Source. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) can easily open source its Windows operating system. This would not only increase the customer base, it would open the floodgates of creativity, cross-platform app development, apps and software which could make Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) solve its problems in the mobile sector.
But Russinovich thinks that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will have to go through a lot before it open sources it software. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Windows is pretty complex and it would take, as Russinovich puts, a Rocket Scientist three months to figure it out. The source said that Microsoft is already letting its software out for free, although it is not opening the code for all.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will still be a leading player in the Enterprise and continue to pile money from its Windows OS even if it open sources the Windows code, thinks Russinovich.
