Netflix began as a DVD rental service in 1998. Around the turn of the century, the company began to transition to a subscription model. Subscribers may rent as many DVDs as they want without incurring any extra charges or penalties. At the time, this was a novel concept. In the early 2000s, Netflix grew quickly, from 300,000 users in 2000 to 600,000 in 2002 and 4.2 million in  2005. ‘Streaming’ was a critical element that changed Netflix, Inc. from a competitor to an industry behemoth. In 2010, Netflix, Inc. expanded internationally. Paid subscriptions climbed from 203.66 million in 2020 to 209 million in the second quarter of 2021, up from 203.66 million in 2020. This is largely due to its simplicity of use and algorithms that adjust streaming to the preferences of the user. In the first half of 2021, Netflix, Inc. had only 5.5 million subscribers. This is down from almost 25 million during the same period last year. In the third quarter, the business expects subscriber growth to pick up again.
