The Battle of supremacy between in the smartphone industry continues to near fever pitch taking into consideration recent remarks made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook, on the Unveiling of iOS 8. Samsung Electronics has already thrown the first jab by announcing that its new phone Tizen Phone, will run on a new operating software Tizen and not the traditional Android OS.
Samsung is the biggest maker of Android phones of which the announcement of its own OS looks set to have an impact on the market share controlled by Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG)‘s Android. Even before the dust settled Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s CEO threw another punch on Android by saying “Over 130 million customers who bought an iOS device in the past 12 months, was buying their first Apple device. Many of these customers were switchers from Android. They had bought an Android phone by mistake.”
Ramon Liamas, ICDC Senior Mobile research analyst, in an interview on Fox Business News pointed out that people are starting to see a rejuvenated Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s CEO, who is ready to take the battle directly to Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG); instead of living in the shadow of Steve jobs. Pete Pachal, a senior technology editor at Mashable, believes that Samsung Tizen may not have a big impact on the short term on Android, but in the long run if Samsung decides to go all the way with its own OS on its devices, big damage could be caused.
Samsung has already announced that it will launch Tizen in Russia. Samsung’s new Tizen phone according to Pachal is not a typical entry phone targeting the emerging markets, but a phone that could perform extremely well in the U.S taking into consideration the impressive specs that it comes with.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) according the analysts could face some competition with the entry of the new Tizen powered phone, considering it has LTE, Fingerprint reader and a Power full processor. Tizen phone according to Pachal will face a stiff challenge in the market on the basis it does not run apps although it allows the importation of apps from Android to Tizen.
