Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has started the delivery of its right hand drive (RHD) Model S in Hong Kong a couple of days ago. The company handed over the keys of eight Model S cars to their owners in an event attended by the brand’s customers and enthusiasts at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. Among the new Model S owners is a Hong Kong movie star, Alex Fong. Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) started the worldwide delivery of RHD Model S in U.K. on June 7, where the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, delivered the five RHD Model S to customers himself.
“Tesla has completely redefined what an electric car can be, and what can be achieved with zero emissions,” Dennis Lo, an owner of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Roadster model and one of the eight customers that received the new Model S, said at the event.
At the Hong Kong event, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) also introduced the city’s first two supercharging sites. The Superchargers that have been installed in Hong Kong are the company’s latest and most advanced models. The company also announced that soon it will be launching a series of supercharging locations throughout Honk Kong, where Model S owners could charge their vehicles for free.
In its 10-Q report for the first quarter of 2014, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) revealed that it plans to expand into China as quickly as possible because it believes that China could be one of its largest markets in near future. Apart from China, UK and Hong Kong, the company also plans its expansion in other right hand drive markets like Japan and Australia. In addition, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) also mentioned that the company could face delivery issues in Asia and other RHD markets, which could impact its global delivery goals this year.
