Brazil VS Germany semifinals of the Football world cup 2014 has rattled not only the football fans around the world, but also the markets. With 35.6 million tweets, Brazil Vs Germany football match became the most tweeted about sport event ever in the history of Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR). Discussing this development in a program on CNBC, experts said that the claims by Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) are yet to be verified, but this is not a surprise as match was full of surprises and everyone was going crazy with the live updates of this historic match which has changed the historical threads of Brazilian football. Twitter is taking this massive activity in its history as a development to be proud off.
Around 35.6 million tweets amounts to 580,166 tweets per minute, which is a record in the social media history ever. The last super bowl record was of 25 million tweets. Jon Steinberg questioned the figures by Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and said that the calculations must be published by Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) to explain the standards of record tracking because there are 255 million Twitter users and 35.6 million Tweets are hard to divide on this number of users.
“Either five percent of all people tweeted three times or every tweeter tweeted one fraction of a time, so the math is a little bit hard to parse out, how can you get 35 million tweets out of 255 million people unless you got some highly engaged people,” said Steinberg.
Steinberg also said that Twitter must not rely on event based activity rather turn Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) into a place where users get all the news all the time. He praised Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) for its MoPub acquisition and said that Twitter is really doing great in terms of bulging its revenue.
