Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is known for comedy and the company has been on a rise recently. The company is known for many innovative shows. However Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) was missing original talk show. That might be the only reason for the company to sign comedian Chelsea Handler for an original talk show.
Jon Erlichman of Bloomberg expressed his view on this move recently. He began stating:
“Netflix is all about comedy; Chelsea is hungry to try something interesting and new.”
Erlichman continued saying that Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has moved into original shows bringing in shows like Orange is the new Black which is a big hit. He also said that Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is talking about redefining the rules of a talk show and it would be interesting to see what that would be. He said that Handler might be used to make some funny documentaries as those are Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)’s specialty. However Erlichman thinks that Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has avoided content and the company has not been keen on getting into sports probably because it’s tough to get rights. A sporting event has much lesser value after everyone has watched it so getting rights for a live broadcast is a much better idea.
Handler would be doing specials and talk shows which might be about movie releases or something similar. Erlichman felt that if the talk show would just be about one movie at a time, it might create much hype. It has to be interactive, funny and should have variety.
Dr. Beth Seidenberg was asked about her view on the turnaround of Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) over the last two years after the plunge of stock and she was very impressed with the recovery. She also said that she is a fan of Handler and she would love to watch the show.
They also mentioned about the John Oliver show on HBO which is Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)’s Nemesis and how John just tunes in his audience. So this might be Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)’s reply to HBO.
