Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s rumored iWatch has been a hot topic in the tech wearable industry for some time now. There have been rumors of the iWatch being able to monitor a lot of health parameters including glucose monitoring. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) though has not disclosed anything yet about the rumored iWatch.
Ina Fried, Senior editor at Re/code had discussed this recently on CNBC along with Dominic Chu and she felt that the tech wearable market has been favorable to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) because the wearable gadgets launched so far have not been able to make a real difference. Here is what she mentioned about the smart watches that were launched recently:
“There have been a bunch of smart watches in the market, but they really feel like smartphone strapped to our wrists and that’s clearly not what most people want.”
Freid also pointed out that the big question would be to find out what would people want on their wrist rather than working on that can be put on our wrists.
Chu chipped in and said that he might be the perfect consumer as he loves wearables. He said he had a fitbit and he went on saying that his dog had a fitbit too. Chu said he loved gadgets and gears. However, Chu made an important observation that the younger generation doesn’t wear a watch just to watch time. He had a question to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and this is what he asked the company:
“Can you make it sexy enough that where people want to wear it as an accessory?”
Chu also thought that the iWatch should have sensors which monitor more health parameters. Fried responded to this and said there is a limit where Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) can experiment with the health pack as the FDA would try to regulate if the company went too far. Here is what he mentioned:
“Something like glucose monitoring, that gets into regulatory”
Fried felt that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is safe until the fitness measurement sensors. If the company goes too far into health, FDA would want to regulate the stuff and that would take it forever to launch the iWatch.
With the reports coming in that the production would start in July, iWatch might be actually rolled out in October and Fried also stated that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) might be testing various screen sizes before it finalizes the best suitable product to launch.
