Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is coming up with a latest 7” tablet which has got 3D imaging capacity and as it does with all of its new products, it is not going to release them for general public directly, Wall Street Journal reports. Google is planning to manufacture 4,000 of such model devices so that the developers can test and try to create apps.

Rolfe Winkler, a WSJ reporter said: “It comes with infrared Depth sensors and advanced software that really can process 3D images.” When asked why tech companies are going towards these advanced vision technology, Winkler said “Well, you know, it’s new and there are potentially some very interesting possibilities that come out of technologies like this.”

He mentioned that the tablet is part of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Project Tango, which the company showed up earlier this year with a smartphone that had indoor mapping capability.

“We don’t really know what we are going to use this technology for and which is why this tablet like the other Project Tango smartphone is going to be released only in limited quantities for developers and the idea is that the developers will create the kind of applications that will make products like these useful and this is actually really common with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL),” he added.

We hope the new 7” tablet, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is coming up with might just bring the rift needed in the tablet market and bring it back to the highs it has seen in 2013. However, that would still take a lot of time as the developers would need to test it and create apps that would really change the way 3D imaging was used.

However, the overall tablet market is currently not all that high as it used to be in 2013. Coleen Taylor, a TechCrunch reporter said on CNBC:

“Phones are getting bigger and better and the laptops are getting smaller with better battery life and the tablet as we know it is getting squeezed from 2010 when the iPad debut, to 2013, the tablet was really the breakout star and now we see the tablet space going in a bit of a maintenance mode.”

This might hit the business that market data and voice services such as AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) as the tablets are data rich devices and if they sell less the effective revenue reduces for the service providers too. However tablets would still be the devices that would drive the productivity and lance Ulandoff, Editor at Mashable stated: “tablets are moving into the productivity space and that is not going to stop”.
