In a program on Bloomberg, Weather Company CTO and CIO Bryson Koehler said that his company is expanding dramatically. The Weather channel is experiencing growth in mobile apps, B2B, space, energy, office, enterprise and other multifarious aspects of the industry. He said that the company’s apps have recorded 170 million downloads. The company also used Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) services in its weather forecast systems.
Koehler said that his company has numerous partners, but Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is one of the most important peers in the industry. Atmospheric science, computer science, amalgamation of these services to give best weather forecast around the world and forecast platform at made by the company from scratch. Answering a question on how Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) web services have revamped and lighten by the weather company’s services, Koehler said that his company is focused on their own business. It gives API’s and mobile platform to let other apps and companies to integrate with its trademark set of weather services. He gave the example of iOS 8, in which some weather systems are powered by The Weather Company.
Apple’s iOS 8 weather widget takes data from The Weather Channel, according to Koehler. He said that Weather ads is another important aspect of the company’s services in which the ads are crafted on consumer habits, weather and intersection of them.
He said that The Weather Company was working with 13 data centers, but that model was not feasible because the company cannot help other entities in the industries based on data centers. He claimed that his company records around 150,000 transactions per second. He said that Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) web services help greatly to scale up predictions and forecasts about hurricanes and other weather events. The Weather Company’s system updates weather information for 3 billion locations every 15 seconds.
