Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is in talks with the makers of the hit game Minecraft to acquire the company. Scarlet Fu revealed this on Bloomberg, today. Minecraft is developed by Mojang, a Swedish privately held company. Though by standards of Xbox games that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and other companies make, Minecraft doesn’t even come close, but many people attribute exactly that, its simplicity and crude graphics as a reason for its success. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is planning to spend $2 billion in the acquisition.
“It is game on for Microsoft; the software giant is in talks with the makers about the popular video game Minecraft. Microsoft may pay more than $2 billion for Sweden’s Mojang, this is according to people familiar with the matter, this deal could happen as early as this week. Minecraft, by the way has sold more than 54 million copies,” Fu said.
As of June 30, 2014, Jeffrey Ubben‘s ValueAct Capital owns over 74 million shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).
