The Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model S was reviewed by Richard Hammond for the Mirror and the renowned Top Gear presenter who is a self-confessed petrolhead likes this all-electric vehicle.
Calling the Model S an “amazing” vehicle, Hammond first goes on to praise Elon Musk, founder and CEO of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), for having a name that sounds like a Bond villain or a perfume but the brains to pull off founding PayPal, SpaceX which he said made the first private spaceship to dock at the International Space Station, and of course Tesla.
Richard Hammond, saying that the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO is not daft, said that the Model S is a different beast compared to other electric vehicles in the U.K. Musk, he wrote, made an electric car “to rival luxury cars like Mercs, Audis and BMWs.”
Furthermore, judging from his impressions of the Model S, the Top Gear presenter is impressed at the differences the car has compared to normal cars powered by an internal combustion engine.
He wrote that the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model S “looks pretty special on the outside” and has an interior that is “really different.” He took note of the giant touch screen the car has which he said is “like a massive iPad.” Furthermore, he appreciated the space inside the car.
Hammond also added that the acceleration of the car “falls into the truly mind blowing category” and that “a lot of people driving muscle saloons will get a shock when the silent Tesla blows them away at the traffic lights.”
Save for a few disappointments like the interior quality, seats which could be better trimmed and steering and suspension which could be better tuned, Hammond said that Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) “has built a car that is totally different to anything else on the market”. He also appreciated the range of the Model S as well as its tax benefits.
He concluded saying:
“Expect over the next few years for Teslas to be a common sight on the road. Maybe even on the Hammond driveway.”
