Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Surface’s initial two versions failed to impress the consumers and they have recently released a newer version of it. The Surface 3 Pro would be soon launched in some of the Asia Pacific markets.
Andy Pickup, senior director at Microsoft was on Bloomberg to discuss more about the Surface 3 pro and how it is different from the last two versions. The big challenge as ever ahead of him was that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has always been seen as a software oriented company and now they are into hardware industry. Pickup said that it’s about enabling people through technology and that is all that matters to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).
“Well, I think, the essence of the brand has always been about enabling people. So we believe that people have potential and it’s all about realizing that potential through technology” Pickup said
He said that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) places software and hardware around people to enable them and that is the essence of the company. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung have been the market leaders in the tablet industry and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is a challenger and Pickup said that the Surface Pro 3 is very different as compared to a MacBook Air and the the positives of the Surface are:
- Its 30% lighter as compared to a MacBook air
- Has a detachable screen which a MacBook air doesn’t have so the user can use it as a tablet or a laptop.
- The pen works with OneNote and saves all your data to the cloud with just clicking the pen. So it comes handy in meetings.
He was asked if it would be as reliable as MacBook as Windows has had problems of getting crashed previously and he said that the Surface Pro 3 is a 3rd iteration of the series and he said that it has been getting great reviews in America and Europe so far. The Surface 3 Pro would be launched in about 10 markets in the APAC region and the expected price in Singapore is $799. Pickup mentioned that the company has been growing in the smartphone sales area too and has been the fastest growing in recent times.
Pickup also said that the Nokia’s mobile phones are very popular in emerging markets and they are going to bring the regular Nokia phones in emerging markets alongside the Lumia series.
Pickup said that that Microsoft as a brand is for both: a professional as well as a consumer and he mentioned about Surface Pro 3 to explain how it works well at work and for entertainment. So it’s a table that fits everyone.
